Staveley Ice Skating Rink
Today Barry (my husband) and I took our two grandchildren up to Staveley Ice Skating Rink in Mid Canterbury. What a treat it was to find a natural ice skating rink in amongst the trees. They had skate hire and old school chairs with "skis" between the legs for children to get started. Gumboots, shoes and ice skates were all allowed on the rink. It was brilliant to see children and adults having a fabulous time in a natural environment. Because they have had a good dumping of snow it has kept the temperatures very cold up there so the rink has been open for a much longer period of time this year.
